Team Moms and Dads
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. –Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh
Most of us know this quote and hold it dear because it is such a sweet sentiment of faith that inspires confidence. We typically think of it as a message bestowed from parents to children as a reminder that they are worthy and able to face any challenge.
As a parent, I think of it in just this way for my children. As a nurse practitioner, I think it equally useful and hopefully inspirational for parents to remind themselves of, particularly when the job of parenting gets difficult. Because it does get tough, even under the best of circumstances, as all parents know. It gets even more challenging when our children are sick or won’t sleep or are sad or won’t eat anything but chicken nuggets or are struggling in school or can’t make friends or won’t listen…and so on.
I plan to devote several posts this year to my patients’ Moms and Dads–fittingly, they will be called “Team Moms and Dads.” Mostly the point of these posts will be to encourage you to hang in there and remind you that you are not alone. All of us here at Frederick County Pediatrics are cheering you on. Your kids need you, they are worth the effort and you are up to any challenge that parenting brings because:
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

Sometimes it is nice to see that your crazy child isn’t actually crazy and that your parenting choices are usually just fine, even if your child would beg to differ.
